Senator Sanders, his mittens, and some career advice
Filed Under: Career Advice
I’m not one to jump on the viral meme bandwagon, but this current obsession with Senator Sanders’ mittens is so strange, I feel compelled to write about it.
While I don’t agree with all his political leanings, I see a good man when I look at Senator Sanders. I see someone who is trying to say and do the right things. But somewhere and somehow failing to connect with people beyond his loyal base of supporters.
But despite himself not being able to secure the promotion to the role of the President of the USA that he was hoping for, here are 4 things his life and work can teach us about climbing our own career ladder:
1. Work hard.
2. Be likable.
3. Deliver value to your company, community, or society beyond your job description.
But most important of all:
4. Have luck on your side.
Because like the Senator, you could be the hardest working person in the room, whom everyone loves and admires. But if luck is not on your side, you will be left sitting out in the stands on a cold January morning watching another man take the oath to the office you so dearly wished for.
While your mittens light up the meme universe like a Christmas tree. 🎄
